President, Space and Airborne Systems

Roy Azevedo is a Raytheon Company vice president and president of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS). He was appointed to lead SAS in August 2018. Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2019 sales of $29 billion and 70,000 employees, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, civil government and cybersecurity solutions. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts.

On Oct. 23, 2019, Azevedo was named president of Intelligence, Space and Airborne Systems, which will be formed upon the closing of the proposed merger of Raytheon Company and United Technologies. The closing is expected in the first half of 2020.

Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems is a leading provider of integrated sensor, communication and electronic warfare systems, giving military forces accurate and timely actionable information for the network-centric battlefield. SAS, headquartered in McKinney, Texas, operates across the U.S. and internationally and oversees the Raytheon UK landed company, with a workforce of 17,600 and 2019 sales of $7.4 billion.

Before being named president of SAS, Azevedo was vice president and general manager of Raytheon’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems, a mission area within SAS. He was appointed to this position in June 2017.

Azevedo was responsible for electro-optical/infrared sensors, active electronically scanned array/scanning radars, and various special mission aircraft solutions to provide customers with actionable information for strike and persistent surveillance.

Azevedo has held several Raytheon leadership positions, including most recently vice president and general manager of the Secure Sensor Solutions (S3) mission area, where he oversaw development and production of airborne fire control radars, GPS/GNS products and secure processors.

Prior to his role at S3, he was vice president of Advanced Concepts and Technology (ACT), a focus area within SAS, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of new and emerging system concepts, products and strategic technologies.

Before ACT, Azevedo served as deputy vice president of S3 and general manager for the Electronic Warfare Systems (EWS) business area, a world leader in the development and production of electronic warfare solutions for strategic and tactical aircraft, helicopters and surface ships for the U.S. Air Force and Navy and their international counterparts. In EWS, he oversaw a product line including towed decoy systems, radar warning receivers, self-protect jamming pods, infrared missile warning sensors and integrated electronic warfare suites.

Azevedo also serves as a member of the Raytheon Saudi Arabia, Raytheon United Kingdom and Raytheon Australia Boards of Directors. He is the chairman of RAYPAC, the company’s employee-funded political action committee, and the senior leader advisor of the Raytheon Employee Veterans Network (RAYVETS) employee resource group. RAYVETS works as a strategic partner across the company to increase the visibility and contributions of our veterans. Azevedo received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
